Water Spray Bottle – Rose Design from FRAMAR

The Raw Deal

Ok let’s take a little wellness Wednesday time and discuss the “importance” of CLEAN ̶e̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶, ahem, CLEAN ‘producting’. By that we mean clean, naturally based products that have ingredients you can actually understand (read/pronounce). From a wellness standpoint, clean eating is included in everything related to diet and fitness these days, and we wonder if the same thing truly translates in the world of hair care, or if it really matters at all…

By ‘matters at all’ we mean if you are using a product that claims to be plant based or naturally based, does that honestly really matter or does it perform any better (or worse) than a product that was formulated using synthetic ingredients by technicality.

Case study starts here – we came across Biolage’s R.A.W. (Real. Authentic. Wholesome.) line recently and have some interesting things to say about it…read more…

First things first – when we took a look at Biolage’s R.A.W. line, we wondered if the products were also edible?! The bottles of shampoo and conditioner have a slight resemblance to fresh made juice bottles that you’d find at your local health food or grocery store. Even the consistency/opaquness of the product appears to look like it is food, not ‘soap’ so to speak.

Just look at the photo of their ‘Nourish’ shampoo and conditioner – does it not look like some sort of delicious honey goodness?

Now on to the products we tried. The Colour Care Shampoo and Conditioner is forumulated with coconut milk & meadowfoam and is Biolage R.A.W.’s ‘most caring, natural-origin formula’ yet. It helps protect color-treated hair, leaving it soft and shiny with lasting color vibrancy. The formula is decent and if you like the smell of coconut then you’ll be in to all of these products in general. It definitely leaves a shine to your hair (your first day hair) and is lightweight but still delivers enough conditioning effects.

We also tried the Re-Hab Clay Mask because hey who doesn’t love a little more boost in their conditioning treatments? Again the mask looks like something edible – imagine cool whip and buttercream vanilla frosting came together to create something decadent for your hair to binge on. On bleached or damaged hair this mask will work wonders. If you already have healthy hair, it may give it a boost or slight improvement. Either way, the mask conditions but also washes/rinses out properly, not sticking around and weighing your hair down.

Finally we tried the Heat Styling Primer before blow drying and styling – the product offers heat protection for up to 450 degrees F. Generally speaking for prep products there is rarely a wow factor, these are like add-ons to your more specific performance products like a volumizing or texturizing spray. However, if you’re going to use any, ANY product on your hair prior to heat, you MUST use a heat protectant. That, we mean, is hair care 101, right? We liked the consistency of the formula, a little goes a long way. It didn’t leave our hair feeling greasy or weighed down and it is a no-brainer to use anytime you’re picking up a blow dryer on wet hair.

So HAIR’S the RAW deal here folks – while we appreciate brands moving towards a more natural approach in their formulations, we still have a stick up our ass about whether or not the products are going to PERFORM. Biolage’s RAW line is a meld of naturally based formulas with thought behind them too in regards to not just being a bottle of coconut oil and calling it a day. If you’re looking for an option that adheres to both performance and natural ingredients, this is a line to try for sure.

Get To Know: Big Kizzy

Hey stylists. Ugh. In a world of instagram snapchat story MANIA, saturated with all things beauty, fashion, health, fitness, travel, luxury lifestyle influencer goulash 9er, everyone is preaching their point of difference BS on you and seriously, does it feel like your feed has become just an ongoing commercial of accounts you’ve liked? “Look at me, I’m enjoying this product and it’s perfect for this scenario and try it out and use my discount code and you’ll live happily ever after. Happy Monday!”

ENOUGH.

*Don’t get us wrong here – this post is totally a ‘plug’ on a brand, HOWEVER, we at Mane Interest focus on bringing awareness to brands that offer SOLUTIONS to ‘problems’ in the industry.*

Say hello to Big Kizzy Hair. Born from a hair dresser’s constant need to source too many brand lines to provide what should be basic at-home care for clients, Big Kizzy covers all the bases, as in, the products are safe for color, keratin, AND, gasp, extensions. All at the same time. Try and do a search of other hair care products/items that do this and…… crickets.

As their website states “BIG KIZZY was designed for the client who loves more hair AND navigates multiple types of services for various reasons.” Hmmm, so basically Big KIZZY was designed for 90+% of the clients that sit in your chair, right? We’re pretty sure the brand’s products can be applicable for just about anyone, but hey, we’ll leave the percentage at 90% just to be conservative.

Anyways, if you’re looking to recommend or try a product line that is geared more towards the all-in-one solutions rather than the one-off solutions, you have to check out Big Kizzy.

One product that we think is especially a god-send for stylists and clients alike is the Big Kizzy Late Nights Dry Shampoo. Why? Well simply because it’s actually SAFE for, yes, color, keratin, and, gasp again, extensions. No really, it is. And at this stage in the dry shampoo game, let’s just accept that most brands do this: give you texture and absorb oil. And that’s what they should do, right? Big Kizzy is no ‘different’ in that regard and why should it be. The difference is their dry shampoo isn’t going to F up your client’s weave or keratin treatment, and frankly, it’s better for that extensions or keratin treatment or color client to be able to go as many days as possible (and hygienically acceptable) because it makes their service last longer. FINALLY. Solutions. For everyone.

If you’re interested in carrying their line or trying out the product for yourself – learn more at the Big Kizzy website. And if you have tried the products, let us know what you think in the comments below. #hairtalk

Living the Roil Life

A little bit of Royal, and a touch of Oil, and what do you get? An exclusive, all natural and niche newcomer to the industry called ROIL. Have you come across this luxury lifestyle brand yet? It’s only available exclusively in some of the world’s nicest hotels (see L’ermitage Beverly Hills or One & Only Palmilla, to name a few), and at the ROIL Salon in Beverly Hills.

The mission behind the brand is to elevate the industry by creating a compelling collection of natural products, coinciding with the company they keep. Translation: you aren’t going to find this on the shelves of your area big box retailer anytime soon. There’s a place and time for any/every product in the market, sure, but ROIL is more focused on a beauty and social consciousness than it is in getting it to the hands of the next YouTube famous blogger.

If you want to try ROIL but aren’t in the area of a 5 star resort anytime soon, you can purchase products directly from their “private collection”, which is even more upscale than their amenity line. Now through August 31, you can also get 20% off your entire order by using the promo code “Mane20” at checkout (code expires August 31). A small, curated line of products that is no nonsense and simply stunning to look at, let alone experience. We like where the #RoilLife is going with their mission. just blowmei already

Yes, you read that title right. We can relate to a brand that utilizes a little play on words (hair is our MANE Interest, after all), and blowmei hair care has an attention grabbing name that is just the start. New to the product scene just this year, blowmei hair care is a naturally based line that focuses on the styling essentials needed to get your best, sexiest hair for both gals and guys. Here are two products you need to know about now and why:

protectmei smoothing mist: an aerosol based “serum” that conditions, is a heat protectant, AND, most importantly in our opinion, reduces the amount of time it takes to blow dry your hair. ANYONE can benefit from this product!

party paste: for guys and short haired gals, a texturizing paste that gives you some g damn separation and hold like you want it (ALL DAY) but without overdoing it. This product HAD to have been formulated by a dude. #justsayin 😉

Try blowmei now
Mane Interest is all about the new and now and we encourage you to try the ‘new’ and ‘now’ when it comes to the blowmei brand. Use the coupon code “maneinterest” at checkout on www.blowmei.co to receive 20% off your order and let us know what you think of the products in the comments below!

Fun With Framar

OK OK, with all of this fabulous color inspiration and viral balayage video phenomenon going on indefinitely via Instagram, we gotta point out the fact that we are seeing a repeating trend in the world of hair tools. That trend, friends, is Framar brand EVERYTHING. From brushes, to bowls, to badass designer foils, we are seeing stylists using Framar products to make their day, video, and client experience even a little more colorful.

WHAT IS FRAMAR
Framar (pronounced FRAY-MAR) originally started as a foil provider for stylists but quickly evolved in to an entire range of premium hair color tools and accessories, designed for the salon professional with some edge. For example, instead of just buying a regular roll of silver aluminum foil, they have options from magenta to orange to blue and silver stars. The foil is premium (obviously) and we love how all it takes is just changing up your foil color to inadvertently give your guest this added ‘touch’ of premium impression and service.

JUST A FEW PRODUCTS WE LOVE
All of Framar’s products are designed from a stylist’s standpoint in terms of ease and industry needs. Here’s what we mean by this:
Funked Up Film: A clear film to use with color blocking and balayage techniques, the non-cling roll dispenses easily from the box and has a built in ‘cutter’. The film is biodegradable too.
Suction Bowl: A single coloring bowl, yes, but with a suction cupping at the bottom so the dang bowl never tips over on you again. DUH. Why aren’t all coloring bowls made to do this?!
Color Brush Set: A set of 3 of their brushes for $7.99. Affordable. Check. Essential. Check.

If you haven’t heard of or used this brand yet, consider it. Framar products are fun, colorful, premium yet incredibly affordable for a colorist. Check out more of their ‘all you can think of’ options at their website here and let us know what you think in the comments below!
